About Circuit City
Originally founded in 1949 as Wards and renamed to Circuit City in 1984, the company was a multinational corporation handling consumer electronics. With time, it has become the largest retailer in the United States of America, after Best Buy. It was headquartered in Richmond, VA.
In 2009, it had close to 600 superstores. Some of them used to spread over 45,000 square feet too. However, the company has filed for bankruptcy during the same year. The sad moment did not represent its death though.
It was purchased by Systemax Inc. and then merged with TigerDirect. These days, the old Circuit City is available in electronic commerce only.
